Currency: Forint (HUF), 1 EUR = 240 HUF. Main destination: Budapest, the capital city with more than 1.6 millions inhabitants. Budapest is one of Europe's most delightful and an enjoyable city with green parks, natural springs of thermal waters and with a great heritage of architecture and culture. The Castle District, the River Danube embankments and the whole of Andrássy út have been officially recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. City’s famous sights are: Neo-Gothic Parliament, Gresham Palace, Matthias Church, Basilica, Fishermen’s Bastion, Aquincum Museum and City Park with Vajdahunyad Castle on its own island in the little lake.
For shopping you definitely want to visit the Great Central Market Hall (Nagyvásárc-sarnok) and buy the best of it: Tokaj wine (very sweet); Unicum (bitters sold in a distinctive round black bottle); Herend porcelain; The Symphonic Poems of Franz Liszt CD (founder of the Budapest Music Academy), Hungarian salami and leather goods.
Other destinations: Szentendre with a Mediterranean atmosphere, Visegrád with itsformer royal palace, Esztergom with the biggest basilica (church) of Central Europe, Százhalombatta with its former centre of Hallstatt culture, Martonvásár withmuseum (in neo-Gothic mansion house) dedicated to the composer Beethoven, Gödöllő with beautifully restored Royal Palace, cities of Gyor, Pecs and Miscolc.
